Kiteboarding lessons are available when conditions allow. Maine is a fabulous place to kite, but the conditions often vary. I teach when the tide is low and the wind direction and intensity are best for learning. This often varies and changes quickly in Maine, so being flexible is super important when learning.
💥💥Important update. There has been an overwhelming demand for lessons and we currently have a very long wait list. Although Maine is a fabulous place to kiteboard, it is a difficult place to learn. The inconsistent winds, especially June-August, can make it difficult to have continuity in your learning process. I strongly recommend you go to one of the consistently windy learning locations: Cape Hatteras, some parts of Florida, and Turks & Caicos (highly reccomend). Take 3-4 days of lessons back-to-back and it will jump start the learning process. Then come back to Maine and I can help get you comfortable riding here in a lesson or two. A few other schools in the region are listed below and they have excellent instruction as well:
Boston Area: https://www.nekiteschool.com/
Cape Cod: https://www.inlandsea.com/t-kiteboardinglessons.aspx
Lessons are offered at $140/hr
Most beginners require 8-12 hours of instruction to be able to ride independently and safely. I typically teach in 2hr blocks as students often get tired after that duration. So count on 4-6 two hour lessons to get to the point of independent riding. If you are visiting Maine only for a week, it is extremely unlikely I would be able to get you in for a lesson, with the current demand of local students.
I provide all the necessary equipment: kites, bars, board, harness, pump, radio helmets, life preservers, but I do not provide wetsuits. The water in Maine is cold and you will need a wetsuit for almost any part of the year. You will need to have a proper wetsuit for the temperatures. I have a few extra gloves and boots available to borrow if needed, but those can also be helpful to have along with the wetsuit.
